New accounts by eyewitnesses prove clashes between police and sellers in Tashkent’s Bek Baraka market sparked off as a result of a predatory raid by law enforcement forces.

According to eyewitnesses, the 16 August events at the Bek Baraka merchandise market and the market located across the road, Abu Sahiy (both near the Ippodrom market) started when several dozen riot police in balaclavas and with machine guns “stormed in like a swarm”. Read more…
