Polytechnic students clash with cops

Although the government has not taken any decision to change the status of diploma engineers, students of another polytechnic institute yesterday clashed with police over a rumour of downgrading their status.
At least 20 students of Rangpur Polytechnic Institute were injured and 32 others arrested during sporadic clashes with police centring the rumour yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, the education ministry yesterday formed a three-member probe body to find out the cause of Thursday’s demonstrations at different polytechnic institutes across the country, said a ministry handout.
The agitation of the students began from Chittagong Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday after the students took to the street on the port city following the rumour. Read more…
