Sudan: University of Juba Students Riot in Campus

Juba — Work in University of Juba came to standstill for several hours yesterday as students rioted following a minor fight that broke out in football field on Monday evening between students.

At least one student was seriously injured and rushed to Juba Teaching Hospital for treatment while others sustained minor injuries during the exchange of stones by the two parties in the University compound.

Police were deployed to water down the situation to avoid further damages of school properties and injuries among the students; however no more damages were reported.

The situation returned to normal at late hours of afternoon after massive presence of police within university premises.

A student leader alleged that security personnel carried out indiscriminate beating of some students. This prompted them to carry out what they called peaceful demonstration and later on prompted students to storm JUSU office. Read more…
