An officer and a protester were taken to the hospital, and several officers and protesters were injured following an ugly clash outside the Loto-Québec building on Sherbrooke St. on Wednesday.
Five people were arrested and various portions of Montreal’s downtown core were subjected to traffic chaos on Wednesday as hundreds of students turned out to protest against rising tuition fees.
The demonstration began around lunchtime, when about 1,000 students marched to the Loto-Québec building on Sherbrooke St. and blocked the entrance, leading to an ugly clash with the Montreal police riot squad.
Police deployed tear gas and flash bombs to disperse the crowd, and several officers and protesters were injured in the confrontation, confirmed Montreal police Sgt. Ian Lafrenière.
Two people – an officer and a protester – were taken to the hospital for treatment. read more…
