VIDEO: Police evict Sydney protesters from empty building (Lateline)
About 100 police and riot squad officers removed a group of anti-capitalist protestors from an unused office building in Sydney’s CBD overnight.
Five people, who are part of the global Occupy movement, were protesting against high housing and rental prices in the city.
They barricaded themselves in an empty seven-storey building, unfurling a banner from a window and writing slogans on the glass in what they was a bid to highlight the housing crisis in Sydney.
Police say they attempted to talk with the protesters but they refused to cooperate, forcing officers to use grinders to break the barricade.
The protestors were evicted from the premises and arrested for trespass. One was arrested for failing to comply with police. Read more …
