TWO youths died March 3 after being shot by police officers in Mazabuka in a riot that followed the death of two other youths in a stampede on March 2.
The stampede was triggered by police officers who threw tear gas canisters into a crowded drinking place where soccer fans were watching a televised English Premiership encounter between Chelsea and Manchester United.
Minister of Home Affairs Mkhondo Lungu confirmed the latest deaths in Lusaka on March 3.

Riots have broken out in Mazabuka district following the death of two people in a stampede after the police allegedly tear gassed a packed tavern were they were watching the English premiership match between Manchester united and Chelsea last evening.
The police have moved in the city center to disperse the unruly crowd forcing business in the Sugar town to come to a standstill.
Sources told QFM from Mazabuka that all trading outlets have been closed, after some shops were attacked by the rioters who broke windows.
The main police station in Mazabuka is also said to have been demolished by the rioters.
The death of two people happened around 23:00 hours last night when soccer fans gathered to watch the two English soccer giants at Social place tavern in Mazabuka.
Some eye witnesses who were found at the scene disclosed that some unidentified police officers allegedly tear gassed the tavern causing the death of two people who have been identified as Nasilele Kwalombota, 20 and Masauso Nyirenda, 21.
The incident sparked a lot of anger by the surviving soccer lovers who scampered to different directions for safety as residents of Stage two and overspill compounds joined them to protest against the act. Read more...

MAZABUKA, ZAMBIA (BNO NEWS) — Riots broke out early Wednesday after Zambian police officers caused the death of two people watching a football match in a bar in the southern town of Mazabuka, the Lusaka Times reported.
Police allegedly tear gassed a packed tavern where people were watching the English premiership match between Manchester United and Chelsea, causing a stampede that killed two people. The victims were identified as Nasilele Kwalombota, 20 and Masauso Nyirenda, 21.
Riots erupted after soccer fans and residents of the area protested the incident. The police moved to disperse the unruly crowd forcing business to come to a standstill. Some shops were attacked by the rioters who broke windows, while the main police station in Mazabuka was also damaged, according to the newspaper.
The calm was restored after Mazabuka district commissioner Tyson Hamaamba said that police was going to investigate the cause of the deaths.
