AMMONNEWS – A riot erupted Saturday evening in the town of Al-Taibeh in Irbid governorate in northern Jordan following disputes between supporters of candidates running for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Hundreds of rioters burnt cars and gunfire was exchanged between supporters of two candidates running in the same district. One person was injured after sustaining a gunshot in his foot.

A security source told ‘Ammon News’ that police deployed to the town and immediately dispersed the crowds, and arrested several individuals involved in the clashes.

The source added that security forces deployed to the area in an attempt to prevent further violence between members of both parties.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
