Violent protest in Hangu against loadshedding

HANGU: Enraged protesters set ablaze five vehicles, as many residential quarters

and an office of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) during a protest rally against electricity loadshedding and low-voltages here Thursday.

Also, three persons were injured and 12 others were arrested by police when the angry mob went violent in the city. Eyewitnesses said the protesters allegedly led by Maulana Jalil took out a rally and blocked the Hangu-Thall Road against the unscheduled electricity loadshedding and low-voltage in the area.

The protesters during the rally, which started from 11:00am and continued till 1:30pm, ransacked Pesco office and other private properties, besides torching five vehicles and as many residential quarters of the Wapda employees.

The in-charge of the Hangu grid station confirmed torching of the Pesco operations office and five other residential quarters of the employees. The sources said that three persons were injured when the police resorted to fire shots into the air in a bid to disperse the violent protesters while 12 others were arrested by during the action.

Also, the power supply remained suspended in many areas of Hangu and Kohat after the collapse of an electricity tower near Kohat. According to Pesco officials, the repair work to fix the tower was underway. They appealed to the people to cooperate with the Pesco to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity. Meanwhile, explosive device planted with a bakery in the main bazaar went off on Wednesday night, completely destroying the shop.

Official sources said unidentified miscreants had planted explosive device with Shaheen Bakery in Akbar Khan Plaza in the main bazaar that went off late night, destroying the bakery and causing partial damage to five other shops.

Our correspondent in Nowshera adds: Residents of Khwerai staged protest demonstration against loadshedding and blocked road for all kind of traffic here on Thursday. The protesters flayed hours of loadshedding in the area despite the government claims that there would be no power outage during Sehar and Iftar. They demanded of the government to stop the hours long power outages in the area.

HANGU: Enraged people set ablaze 4 vehicles, five houses and a building of WAPDA in protest against low voltage and load-shedding.

Police has arrested 11 protestors in an action to bring the situation under control.

According to details, the protestors attacked a grid station on Thursday morning, Ransacked property and torched three government vehicles.

In-charge of the grid station said the enraged people set on fire operations office and residential quarters of the employees.

Police also resorted to aerial fire to disperse the charged protestors.

Meanwhile, power continues to remain suspended in many areas of Hangu and Kohat following the collapse of an electricity tower near Kohat.

According to PESCO, repair work to fix the tower is underway on war-footing basis.

The PESCO officials have appealed to the people to cooperate in the current situation
