At least 10 people including a journalist were injured in clashes between strike supporters and police in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj during Jamaat-e-Islami’s daylong nationwide strike on Thursday.
Four people were nabbed from the scene, south of Bangabandhu bridge, said the concerned Police Station Sub-Inspector Aslam Hossain.
Pro-shutdown activists blocked the highway in Nalka area and damaged vehicles early in the morning, he said.
They attacked the police after the law-enforcers intervened, Hossain said.
Police lobbed and fired at least 30 rounds of teargas shells and rubber bullets, reported bdnews24.com Correspondent. Then they fired in the air to drive the trouble-makers away.
Shutdown supporters beat up journalists when they tried to cover the incident. One journalist was injured. Read more …
