Scores injured, property lost in Rufiji clashes

Rufiji/Dar. Several people were injured and properties worth millions of shillings were destroyed when herdsmen clashed with farmers yesterday at Ikwiriri in Rufiji District, Coast Region.
A road linking Dar es Salaam and southern regions was closed for about six hours as police and district leaders tried to calm down the fighting groups.
No details about the casualties have been given, but it has been confirmed that the clashes erupted after pastoralists killed a 60-year-old Ikwiriri farmer, Shamte Seif. His fellow farmers pursued the herdsmen to revenge.
Reports say the livestock keepers beat the farmer to death after he chased away cattle which the pastoralists had let free on his farm. Read more…
