Police battle Kyambogo, Nkumba striking students

Police this afteroon engaged Kyambogo and Nkumba University students in running battles bringing business in Banda and Nkumba towns to a stand-still.
Enraged students at Kyambogo burnt a wooden Police shack and lit tyres across the roads connecting the campus and Jinja Road.
The strike that started early in the morning, left business people operating around the areas in tears as their items and merchandise were destroyed and others burnt to ashes.
Five students of Kyambogo University were injured and rushed to the hospital after police used rubber bullets and tear gas to break the demonstration.
Students also attempted to block traffic along the Kampala-Jinja Highway at Banda but police dispersed them. Read more …
