Six injured in Luweero as residents riot over garbage

A female police officer and five other people have been admitted to Kasana Health Centre IV in Luweero town after sustaining injuries following a chaotic demonstration by Luweero Town Council residents protesting the alleged poor disposal of garbage by the council authorities.

Authorities at Kasana Health Centre confirmed to the Daily Monitor that Ms Joelia Kabajjasi, a police officer with Luweero Central Police Station, was hit by a sharp object on her lower jaw and is undergoing treatment at the Centre.

The other people injured as police tried to disperse residents who had blocked traffic on the Kampala-Gulu highway in Luweero, include a two-month-old baby who was taken to the centre by the Red Cross team including four other women who collapsed as police fired tear gas canisters at the protesters.
