Riot Hlatshwayo
The situation slowly returned to normal yesterday in the strike-torn residential trusts following a four-day protest over service delivery that resulted in the death of a woman and the arrest of more than 100 protesters along the densely populated area between White River and Nelspruit.
About 10 police nyalas were seen parked outside the Masoyi police station yesterday and the police tactical response unit, commonly known as Amaberet, were seen patrolling the main road that passes through trusts such as Mganduzeni, Mahushu, Siwalala, Jerusalem, Polar, Bhekiswayo, Majika and Dizenze.
This is the road that had more than 20 incidents of violence, with separate groups of people protesting and demanding water, electricity, decent roads and jobs for the youth, resulting burning of tyres, blockading of the road with bricks, stones and tree trunks since Sunday.
