QUETTA: Residents of the Railway Colony on Wednesday staged protests at the Joint Road area against a police operation against encroachments.
The Supreme Court has ordered demolition of illegal buildings around the railway’s property and clearing of encroachments in surrounding areas.
The police say they were clearing the encroachments when some residents of the Railway Colony came out and started protesting.
They raised slogans against the move and appealed the government to give them some time so that they could manage substitute living place for their families. Protesters then burned tyres and blocked the road. Police resorted to aerial firing and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the protesters. The protesters then started pelting the police with stones, which led to clashes. Read more…
