Breaking: Dozens of Houses Torched in S. Lampung Dispute

A large clash between hundreds of villagers in Sidomulyo District, South Lampung, has resulted in dozens of homes torched in what some believe to be an ownership dispute over a parking lot that spiraled out of control.

Thousands of villagers armed with knives, machetes and bamboo spears were still fighting in the area on Tuesday afternoon, according to one source.

Police have closed access roads into the district in an attempt to bring the violence under control and villagers are being evacuated from conflict areas from their own safety.

At least 48 homes have been burned to the ground, with 23 more suffering severe damage. Read more…
