10 die in Madhya Pradesh stampede

PATNA, India, Jan. 22 (UPI) — Enraged witnesses went on a rampage after a woman was struck by a train in India Saturday night, police said.

The mob broke windows and torched road-construction machinery after the accident in Patna.

The Times of India said police had to call in reinforcements and firefighters to restore order.

Officers said the woman, who lived in the neighborhood, was crossing the tracks near a police station when she was struck.

It was not clear how many people were involved in the melee or if there were any injuries.
