Police Disperse Protesting Youth From Tahrir Square

Hundreds of protesters who converged at the Silver Jubilee Square in Kano, vowing to remain there until their demands are met were yesterday dispersed by riot policemen just as one of the protesters was reportedly killed while several others were wounded.
Our correspondent gathered that in the dead of the night on Wednesday, the protesting youth were chased away by the police in circumstances that allegedly led to the death of one of them. The protesters alleged that the policemen were responsible for the death of the protester but the police had denied killing anybody in the process.
The protesters had argued that by the time the police swooped on them, « they in the process, crushed one of us, breaking his ribs and other parts of his body. He eventually gave up after being taken to a hospital ». Read more…
