Kuet closed sine die after clash

Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) was closed sine die after 25 people were injured on Monday in clashes between BCL, police and general students over serving substandard foods.

The closure decision came at a meeting in the afternoon with Vice-chancellor Dr Md Alamgir Hossain. The Kuet authorities also asked all students to leave the dormitories by 6:00pm.

The five-hour sporadic clashes began around 1:00pm, reports our Khulna correspondent.

Eight of the injured were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital with severe injuries.

Deputy Commissioner Mostafa Kamal of Khulna Metropolitan Police and five Kuet teachers were among the injured.

The teachers are: Director of Student Welfare Affairs Prof Shibendra Shekhar Shikder, Dr Rafiqul Islam and Elias Inam Koel of the electrical department, Dr Md Masud and Dr Abdur Noor Tushar of mechanical department.

The angry students vandalised the vice-chancellor’s residence, guard room and two cars during the clashes. Read more…
