Mob clashes with police in Mumbai suburb, 17 held

Mumbai, Dec 18 (PTI) Seventeen persons were today arrested on charges of rioting after they pelted stones, burnt bikes and even assaulted policemen in suburban Bandra here reportedly on a trivial matter. The arrested accused, along with others, ransacked a police chowki and even shattered windshields of some city buses, they said. According to police, a 20-year-old youth was crossing a road in wee hours today when Senior Inspector of Bandra police station, Samad Sheikh, intercepted him and asked him to take a flyover. The youth spurted some words and fled the spot only to emerge later with a mob. The mob began pelting stones at police and set on fire four bikes. Read more…
