NAGPUR: Tension erupted at Shiv Nagar in Khamla when communal clashes broke out between two communities over the construction of a bhavan in an open Nazul Land.
On Wednesday afternoon, the situation turned serious when people from one community fixed their religious flag in the open land while the other community members were planning the construction of a bhavan on it. The other community opposed it leading to a conflict between the two groups.
Soon, people from both the sides started abusing each other. Nearby residents immediately alerted the Rana Pratap Nagar police station. Quick action by the cops averted the situation from getting more sensitive.
According to police, few months ago people from one community had got permission from the NMC to construct a bhavan in the open land. For this, they were mapping of the area since last week.
However, on Wednesday, people of from a community fixed two religious flags in the middle of the land. As soon as the other community saw the flags, they started abusing each other leading to open clashes.
The situation was brought under control in a few minutes as senior police officers including DCP Zone I, Kailash Kanse ACPs and cops from Rana Pratap Nagar police station reached the spot.
The flags were removed after NMC authorities informed the police that as per the circular passed in 2009, Nazul land will not be allowed for religious purpose. Some persons also abused the cops when they removed the flags.
Despite police presence, people were seen abusing each other. Strict security arrangement has been put in the locality.
Hubby, in-laws booked
Nagpur: The husband and in-laws of a 20-year-old woman, who hanged herself to death, were booked for abetment of suicide.
The woman Raina Tiwari killed herself at her residence on December 5. In her suicide note, she had mentioned that her husband Dayashankar did not allow her to go to her parent’s house and the depression of it led her to take the extreme step.
Pachpaoli police had then registered a case of an accidental death. On further investigation, the deceased’s parents told the police that since the couple tied the knot ten months ago, Dayashankar, working with a private company, used to torture her for dowry of Rs 1.50 lakhs.
He also doubted her character and tortured her regularly for the same. He was also supported by his parents and younger brother, claimed Raina’s parents.
