Police in northern Manila fire shots to disperse shanty town residents and activists protesting against the planned demolition of a row of homes.
Youths respond by hurling missiles at police.
One man was arrested, allegedly in possession of a home-made gun.
A police chief blamed the clashes on left-wing activists, saying peaceful negotiations were underway with the residents.
But one slum dweller said the police were trying to tear down their barricade.
