KARACHI – Riots erupted after gunmen killed two scouts in a sectarian attack in the provincial capital Sunday, police and eyewitnesses said.
Participants of a rally, called by defunct Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), were returning from the Karachi Press Club when some of them fired shots at the camps set up by different Shia organisations at Nomaish Chowrangi, killing two scouts on the spot and wounding another. The deceased were identified as Zainul Abideen, 25, a resident of Mehmoodabad, and Azhar Hussain, 32. The wounded was identified as Ayaz, who was shifted to hospital. When contacted, Sindh Boys Scout Secretary Akhter Mir said the victims were sitting at their stalls when they came under attack by the gunmen.
According to eyewitnesses, the three attackers took refuge in the mosque of Almi Majlis-i-Khatam-i-Nabowat at the main intersection. But the Rangers arrested them. Read more…
