Protestor dies as riot police clear tent camp in Donetsk

A protestor who took part in a hunger strike by Chornobyl cleanup workers in Donetsk reportedly died after riot police forcefully cleared the group’s tents on Nov. 27.

Citing Mykhailo Volynets, a lawmaker from the camp of jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukrainska Pravda news portal reported late on Nov. 27 that former coal miner Gennady Konoplyov had died during the tragic incident. Konoplyov was not a Chornobyl cleanup worker but supported their protest and took part in it. He was a member of Tymoshenko’s Batkivshchyna party, according to Volynets. Read more…
