Egypt: violent protests spread to Alexandria

Clashes erupt on the streets of the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria as the country’s army-appointed government submits its resignation to stem protests that have spread across the country.
Riot police lined up to guard Alexandria’s main security building and fired tear gas at protesters.
The country-wide clashes, which have killed at least 35 people, including at least one in Alexandria, pose the most sustained challenge yet to the rule of the military.
Egypt’s army-appointed government handed in its resignation on Monday, trying to stem a spiralling crisis as thousands of protesters clashed with security forces for the third straight day. Read more…
