Mob clashes with cops, 10 injured

KOLKATA: Police lathicharged on an immersion procession taken out by a Bhowanipore club after the club members allegedly attacked them late on Sunday. The incident occurred after they refused to obey police order and burst banned crackers. Mamata Banerjee’s appeal for peace finally controlled the situation.

Around 10 persons were injured in the clash in front of Bhowanipore police station.

Police alleged that the members of Bhowanipore Players’ Association were playing loud music and bursting banned crackers and attacked the cops when they intervened. Police then resorted to lathicharge. Read more…

The CM appealed for peace and assured the mob that the guilty would be punished. Police commissioner R K Pachnanda, too, rushed to the spot.
