S. Korea police use water cannon at trade pact rally

SEOUL — South Korean police fired water cannons Thursday to disperse demonstrators who tried to force their way into parliament in a rally against a free trade agreement with the United States.
Thousands of riot police ringed the sprawling parliament compound to fend off some 2,300 demonstrators, who included workers, farmers, students and activists brandishing placards opposing the pact.
Police armed with plastic riot shields used three water cannons to prevent attempts by a group of hundreds of protesters to break into the compound, an AFP photographer saw.
At least 15 people were detained, but no injuries were reported. Read more…
