Squatters’ rights protesters arrested after clash with police outside Parliament

At least 12 people have been arrested after protesters clashed with police during a demonstration over squatters’ rights outside the Houses of Parliament.
Around 150 people gathered shortly after midnight yesterday to stage a “mass sleep out” on Parliament Green over the proposals to criminalise squatting in residential buildings.
The majority of the group dispersed peacefully when ordered to move on by police, however around 50 protesters refused claiming they were holding a Halloween picnic.

Scuffles reportedly broke out between demonstrators and police, with officers using batons and loud hailers in an attempt to break up the crowd.
Campaign group Squatters Action for Secure Homes said hundreds of police flooded the streets of Westminster and used « kettling » tactics against those involved in the protest. Read more …
