Civilian killed, 6 protesters injured in clashes during Yemen’s anti-Saleh rallies

SANAA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) — A civilian was killed and six protestors injured Friday in clashes between government troops and defected forces as tens of thousands of protestors rallied across Yemen’s major cities to repeat their demands of ousting President Ali Abdullah Saleh, medics and witnesses said.
In the country’s capital Sanaa, clashes between Saleh’s forces and defected army guarding a rally erupted when thousands of protesters demanding Saleh to resign and be prosecuted burnt the bodies of those who were recently killed by government troops, said witnesses.
Medics said a 28-year-old woman was shot dead in the Hail neighborhood near the protester’s epicenter Change Square and a soldier of the defected army was injured during the clashes.
The Change Square, where the protesters have camped for nine months, has been under protection of the defected army since March after the army commander Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar defected from Saleh. Read more …
