Srinagar, Sep 16: Protest erupted in the old city on Friday afternoon in response to the call given by Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani against the continued detention of political leaders, youth and his own continued house detention.

“As soon as Friday prayers ended in the central Jamia Masjid here youth took out a procession and started marching towards Nowhata. However, policemen and paramilitary CRPF men who were deployed in strength to counter protest swung into action and stopped them from moving ahead,” witnesses said. “Angry youth retaliated with stones triggering clashes between them and force personnel which continued till late in the afternoon.” Read more…
