Jaipur: Curfew was imposed in two towns of Bharatpur district after three people were killed and over a dozen injured in rioting over the ownership of a pastureland in Gopalgarh town. Police also had to fire shots to control the violent mob.
« Three people are dead. We have clamped prohibitory orders in four divisions of Bharatpur while curfew has been imposed in seven police stations in two towns of Kaman and Pahadi, » district collector Krishna Kunal said.
He also issued shoot-at-sight orders against the rioters. There were also reports of people being injured in police firing, however, officials did not confirm any casualty because of police action.
After a marathon meeting that ran late into the night, home minister Shanti Dhariwal however said that five to six people could have been killed in the clashes between the locals in Bharatpur. Read more…
