Clashes in S.Leone as presidential candidate attacked

FREETOWN — Violence broke out in Sierra Leone’s second largest city Bo Friday when people pelted the main opposition presidential candidate with stones, hitting him on the head, local television reported.
In retaliation, the regional office of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) in the city, 200 miles (300 kilometres) south of the capital, was torched.
An eye-witness who asked not to be named, told AFP: « Several houses belonging to ruling party activists were also torched and several APC supporters injured. »
Julius Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) had been making his way through the city in a convoy to thank the city after winning the opposition flagbearership from among some 20 candidates when he was attacked. Read more…
