Violent clashes outside Malema hearing

The power struggle within South Africa’s ruling African National Congress turned violent on Tuesday as police clashed with protesters on the opening day of disciplinary hearings against Julius Malema, the populist leader of the ANC youth league.
Scores of Mr Malema’s supporters crowded towards Luthuli House, the headquarters of the ANC in central Johannesburg, hurling rocks and burning ANC flags and t-shirts of Jacob Zuma, the president.
Such scenes would have been unimaginable three and a half years ago when Mr Zuma toppled former president Thabo Mbeki from the ruling party leadership with support from the youth league. Read more..
