Violent Clashes After Friday Prayers

Srinagar, Aug 26: Clashes between youth and contingents of police and paramilitary CRPF broke out in Nowhatta area of old city here post Friday prayers.
Quoting sources, reports said that soon after the culmination of Jum’at-ul-Vida prayers, hundreds of youth took to streets and staged protest against occupation of Masjid-e-Aqsa by Zionist Israel.
As the youth tried to march ahead, police and CRPF prevented them, triggering clashes that continued till late in the evening.
While the youth resorted to stone pelting, police and CRPF fired teargas canisters after baton charge failed to disperse them.
There were no reports of injury to any person during the clashes, they added.
A police spokesman said that ‘miscreants’ attempted to disrupt peace in Nowhatta which was foiled.
“Jumat-ul-Vida prayers were held across Kashmir Valley today which concluded peacefully. However, some miscreants after Friday prayers attempted to disrupt peace in Nowhatta area, by resorting to stone pelting on police and forces deployments. Police, however, exercised restraint while dealing with the situation. No one had been injured till this report was filed,” a police spokesman said.
