Despite heightened security in many parts of the Kashmir valley, groups of youth took to streets at various places, particularly in Srinagar, to protest against the alleged custodial killing of Sopore youth, Nazim Rashid.
Reports said groups of youth took to streets at Maisuma, Gaw Kadal, Khayam, Nowpora, Baba Demb, Nowhatta, Kawdara and other areas of this Capital City and clashed with troopers and the policemen.
Besides chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters also pelted rocks and stones on the forces. The forces returned the stones sparking off fierce clashes.
The pitched battles continued till late afternoon. However, no reports of any injuries were received.
