Géorgie: des affrontements entre policiers et manifestants ont eu lieu dimanche à Tbilissi

La police de Géorgie a ouvert le feu dimanche en tirant des balles caoutchoutées sur des manifestants qui avaient attaqué une voiture de police à Tbilissi. Les manifestants armés de bâtons ont brisé les vitres et battu les occupants du véhicule. La police a aussi usé de gaz lacrymogène. La leader d’opposition Nino Bourdjanadzé a affirmé de son côté que l’affrontement avait été provoqué pupants de la voiture qui tentaient d’arrêter un responsable de l’opposition. Samedi, environ 6000 personnes ont défilé à Tbilissi pour exiger la démission du président Mikhaïl Saakachvili.

TBILISI — Police in Georgia fired rubber bullets at protesters holding an all-night demonstration against Western-backed President Mikheil Saakashvili after they attacked a car full of people on Sunday.

Local television in the ex-Soviet state showed pictures of a group of anti-government protesters with sticks attacking the car on Sunday morning, smashing its windows and beating people inside.

« Police were forced to use rubber bullets to defend peaceful citizens, » interior ministry spokesman Shota Utiashvili told AFP.

A spokeswoman for opposition leader Nino Burjanadze said the clash was provoked by the people in the car, who tried to seize an activist from the overnight protest outside the Georgian public television studios. Read more…
