KOLKATA: A senior CPM leader was kidnapped and murdered in Garbeta on Saturday as post-poll violence continued unabated not just in rural Bengal but also in Kolkata. More than 20 people were injured in attacks, among them former CPM minister Nimai Mal.
Reports of clashes have been coming in since Friday evening, when a CPM leader was killed, another attacked in Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s constituency and a CPM candidate beaten up.
On Saturday, the body of 57-year-old Jiten Nandi, CPM’s zonal committee leader in Garbeta, was found in Maita forest. « Trinamool-backed miscreants attacked our Benechapra party office, kidnapped Jiten Nandi and killed him. His body had multiple wounds, » said CPM’s West Midnapore district committee secretary Deepak Sarkar.
Garbeta CPM zonal committee secretary Sukur Ali and West Midnapore district CPM secretary Tapan Ghosh were allegedly attacked when they were in a car in Salboni’s Mandalkupi late on Saturday night. Read more…
