Police said 21 hooligans were detained on Tuesday in connection with recent riots at the Polish Cup final, in which fans tore off stadium seats and had to be dispersed with a water cannon.

Police said 70 people have been identified as having taken part in the riots, and that more hooligans will be detained as the investigation continues.

Prosecutors said they have gathered enough evidence to bring charges against 33 hooligans who took part in the riots, in which fans clashed with security and assaulted photographers in Bydgoszcz after the Polish Cup final. The match on May 3 ended with a 5-4 win for Legia Warsaw after a penalty shoot-out against Lech Poznan.

The 21 detained hooligans will have charges brought against them including entering the stadium field, destroying property and attacking security.

Football fans were banned from a Legia Warsaw match with Korona Kielce on Friday as a security measure. Read more…
