JKLF, cops clash in Srinagar

Clashes erupted in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Friday when JKLF supporters tried to take out a march to mark the death anniversary of its founder Maqbool Bhat.

The clashes started after the Friday congregation prayers. The protesters started raising slogans after prayers at Maisuma, which houses the headquarters of JKLF. The police tried to stop protesters, who were demanding handing over of mortal remains of Bhat, who was hanged in 1984 in Tihar jail for the murder of a CID officer.

The police personnel posted on duty in the area used batons to disperse the youths, who indulged in stone pelting. Additional forces rushed to the area and the chased away the protesters.
