Chine: la police tire sur des manifestants

La police chinoise a blessé au cours du week-end dernier au moins cinq manifestants par balles dans la région autonome du Guangxi (sud), a affirmé un groupe de défense des droits de l’Homme basé à Hong Kong.

Le Centre d’information sur les droits de l’Homme et la démocratie (CHRD) a indiqué dans un communiqué hier que la police était intervenue alors que plus de 100 manifestants, essentiellement des travailleurs migrants, se dirigeaient dimanche dernier vers des édifices publics de la ville de Wuzhou pour protester contre leurs faibles salaires. Au moins cinq manifestants ont été blessés par balle et au total une vingtaine hospitalisés, a affirmé le CHRD.

Une source hospitalière a indiqué pour sa part que 18 manifestants étaient hospitalisés avec des blessures par balles. Cette source, qui a souhaité garder l’anonymat, n’a toutefois pas précisé qui était à l’origine des tirs. Un policier de Wuzhou a confirmé qu’une manifestation avait eu lieu sur les salaires. « Des migrants ont manifesté dans les rues et beaucoup d’habitants les ont regardés », a-t-il dit. Un responsable du Bureau de la Sécurité publique a pour sa part indiqué que plus de 100 personnes avaient « manifesté illégalement ». « Notre police est sortie et leur a demandé de ne pas manifester », a-t-il simplement déclaré. Hong Kong, Jan 19 (Kyodo) Police in southern China »sGuangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region shot five people during aprotest over unpaid wages over the weekend, a human rightswatchdog said today.

The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracysaid about 100 construction workers of a project in CangwuCounty of Wuzhou City were heading to the municipal governmentbuilding Sunday when they were met by riot police who openedfire on the unarmed crowd.

The Hong Kong-based center quoted a hospital officer assaying that about 20 people were sent to the hospital fortreatment, including five who sustained gunshot wounds.

Photographs posted on mainland websites show a crowdbelieved to be the workers and bystanders facing off with theriot police.

A spokesman for the Wuzhou police department, onlyidentified by his surname Xie, told Kyodo News that the rallywas deemed an « illegal march » but he declined to confirm ifpolice opened fire. Read more…
