Reports that a security guard was killed during rioting involving 2,000 workers at a labour camp in the Al Quoz district of Dubai have been denied by the camp’s manager.

He told Construction Week Online that security guards and workers were injured when a New Years party at the camp turned violent.

Local media reports have claimed that the trouble started after guards tried to break up a fight between some workers and were allegedly attacked. A spokesman for camp owners HR Jams Solutions is quoted by 7DAYS newspaper as saying that: « Some other guards recipocated and assaulted a worker. »

Despite the presence of local police, rioting is said to have continued into Sunday, leaving buses, furniture and windows wrecked in its wake.
