Srinagar: Violent clashes broke out in many parts of the Srinagar city this morning, as a complete shutdown is being observed across the Valley in response to the call given by Hurriyat Conference (G).
Reports said that groups of youth this morning took to streets at many places in the Old City, including Nowpora, Khanyar, Gojwara, Kawdara, Safa Kadal and staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations. Besides shouting pro-Independence and anti-India slogans, the protesters pelted stones on the forces.
At Khanyar, a bus of Tibetan School was damaged after unidentified men reportedly intercepted the bus and asked the driver and a lone student to come out of it. Later they torched the bus, reports said.
Reports of pitched battle between protesters and the forces have also been received from uptown Maisuma.
In a handout issued this morning, a police spokesman said that some miscreants in the wee hours today intercepted a School Bus (JK01N/9073), near Ranger stop, Khanyar.
“The bus was later set-ablaze putting the lives of school children in risk. Police has registered a case and efforts are on to nab the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” the spokesman added.
