KARACHI: Riots broke out in various areas of the city on Saturday over prolonged power load shedding that also caused severe water shortage.

A major protest took place on Gulbai Chowk, Shershah before the arrival of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, who visited the Kabari Market.

The residents of Paracha Chowk, Pankha Chowk, Mohammadi Road and their surrounding areas gathered at the Gulbai Chowk and burnt tyres on the roads while chanting slogans against the Karachi Electric Supply Company.

They complained of long hours of unannounced power shutdowns that have resulted in the shortage of water supply in the area. The protest continued for over five hours during which vehicular traffic came to a standstill on the Mauripur Road.
