The police have booked 43 people for rioting following a clash at Bawamanpura in the Walled City area on Saturday night. Ten people were injured in the clash, the police said.
The Panigate police had to use teargas shells to control the situation.
Later, Rapid Action Force personnel were deployed in the area.
The police said the clash erupted when some youths from Kumbharwada and Bhoiwada areas objected to the use of loud speakers at a wedding in Bawamanpura.
“Soon, nearly 50 people attacked the youths and both sides resorted to stone pelting, damaging properties,” said a police officer, adding that three teargas shells were fired to disperse the mob.
According to the police, a 10-year-old boy sustained serious injuries in stone pelting and was rushed to the Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital. His condition is said to be critical.
Later, a complaint was lodged by Panigate Sub-Inspector M G Desai against one Yakubshah alias Kalio Hussainshah Diwan and 42 others from Bawamanpura.
