KARACHI : People held a protest demanding the arrests of those responsible for the killing of Shehzad Raza, sources said Thursday.

Police resorted to aerial firing and used tear gas shell to disperse the enraged mob, protesting against the killing of a man at Ancholi, Shahra-e Pakistan here on Wednesday.

Shahzad Raza, 40, son of Tahir Raza was shot dead by unidentified armed men at Bahadurabad Chowrangi on Wednesday morning.

The protesters staged a sit-in along with the body of Shahzad Raza after offering funeral prayer and blocked the Shahra-e Pakistan. The infuriated protesters also torched the passenger bus at Ancholi and blocked the road. SAMAA

Killing of ISO activist triggers violence Thursday

The killing of an activist of the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) in Bahadurabad on Wednesday morning, triggered violence as angry protesters torched three vehicles and damaged a restaurant, a bus stand and a CNG station in Ancholi.

The protesters also blocked Shahra-e-Pakistan, creating a traffic gridlock in the area, and vehicles coming from the Super Highway were diverted on other routes.

Shahzad Raza, 35, was shot dead by two armed men riding a motorcycle near Imtiaz Super Store, Bahadurabad Chowrangi, in the New Town police limits. According to SHO Tariq Imran, the deceased worked as a salesman at a dry fruit shop situated near Bahadurabad Club, Choti Market.

The incident occurred at around 10 in the morning. The shops in the area usually open after 11:30am, and only a vegetable vendor was present at the scene at the time of the incident.

In his statement, the vegetable vendor told the police that the armed men were riding a Super Star motorcycle and the rider was slim and had covered his head with a towel, while the pillion rider was well-built and wearing a Shalwar Kameez. After confirming the identity of Raza, the culprits sprayed him with bullets and disappeared from the scene, he added.

SHO Imran said that the deceased received three bullets on different parts of his body. He added that the deceased’s elder brother, Asif Raza, was also shot dead in the Rizvia police limits just last week. According to him, the deceased was an activist of the ISO and a resident of Ancholi, Block-18, Samanabad. Police registered an FIR on the complaint of Ali Raza, the younger brother of the deceased. A further probe was under way.

Police said that after the funeral, a protest was launched by activists of the ISO in the Ancholi area.

During the protest, some unidentified armed men created a law and order situation and torched four passing vehicles, including a van of the Karachi Electric Supply Company. A CNG station and a bus stand were also damaged by the mob. The protesters also manhandled media persons covering the incident. A heavy contingent of police and Rangers, meanwhile, reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Agitators burnt hotel and vehicles in Karachi

KARACHI: Unrest and agitation started in Ancholi area of Karachi and people have burnt a hotel and two vehicles in protest of a murder of 40 years sales man by unknown assassins. Heavy contingent of police and rangers have been called in the area, SAMAA reported Thursday.

Earlier some unknown armed men killed 40 years old Shehzad Raza son of Tahir Raza, with firing, in the area of Bahadurabad.

According to details culprits escaped after the offense. The corpse of the deceased was brought to Jinnah Hospital and after a postmortem it was handed over to the family.

Deceased Shehzad Raza was a resident of Incholi Area, and was employed in a shop situated at Bahadurabad.

According to police, one week earlier deceased Shehzad’s brother Asim Raza was also killed in same circumstances. The further investigation of police is under way. SAMAA

KARACHI: Police resorted to aerial fire and tear gas shelling to bring the situation under control when people began rioting after funeral prayer of Shahzad Raza who was gunned down by unknown assailants in Bahadurabad town Wednesday morning.

Officials say Shahzad was gunned down in target killing – a phenomenon which has plagued the metropolitan city of Karachi. Law enforcing authorities and media point finger towards competing political parties for the control of the turf.

The protesters staged a sit-in along with the body of Shahzad Raza after offering funeral prayer and blocked the Shahra-e-Pakistan in Ancholi.

Police had to fire in the air and shoot tear gas shells to scatter the enraged protesters which led to the rioting. Some tear gas shells landed inside houses where women and children fell unconscious.

The demonstrators set on fire a restaurant, four vehicles including two buses and a KESC utility vehicle besides ransacking a CNG station.
