Protesters marched to the Israeli barrier in defiance of a military order declaring the area near the wall a « closed military zone » which went into force two months ago.

Bil’in and nearby Ni’lin hold demonstrations against the wall every Friday following the noon Muslim prayer. The International Court of Justice in The Hague ruled the barrier illegal in 2004.

According to Ma’an’s report, demonstrators approached the barrier and attempted to enter the area of Bil’in that lies behind it. Israeli forces fired tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets.

A Palestinian demonstrator identified only as « Haitham » was hit in the chest with a tear gas canister and was taken in an ambulance to a hospital in the nearby city of Ramallah.

Six people were arrested according to the report, including Ashraf Abu Rahma, 28, Abdul Fattah Burnat, 53, and local journalist Haitham Al-Khatib, 34. Two Israelis, Uri Bateman, 27, and Roy Vackner, were arrested. An American citizen identified by the alias « Stormy » was also reported arrested.

According to local reports, olive trees caught fire as a result of discharged tear gas canisters.

On Saturday several demonstrators were hurt and injured when they attempted to block construction vehicles involved in the wall’s construction in the village of Al-Walaja, near Bethlehem.

Israeli forces have clashed with Palestinians protesting against the construction of the apartheid wall and other Israeli policies.

On Friday, clashes erupted in two West Bank villages when Israeli soldiers fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, which caused a fire in olive groves.

Palestinians held rallies in the villages of Bilin and Nabi Saleh to protest Tel Aviv’s land confiscation and settlement plans.

Protesters set out toward the wall carrying Palestinian flags and calling for national unity to resist the Israeli occupation.

A Palestinian protestor was injured and six others were arrested.

On Thursday, Palestinians and foreign activists also demonstrated against Israel’s construction of an illegal apartheid wall in the West Bank.

Locals say the apartheid wall is being built on land the Israelis are confiscating from the Palestinians.

Six activists including an activist from the bay area were arrested and one injured during today’s demo against the Apartheid Wall and settlements in Bil’in in Palestine. Five more were arrested after a similar demo in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh.

One resident was injured and dozens suffered teargas inhalation during a protest to commemorate the 62th Al-Nakba anniversary in Bil’in. The protest was joined by international and Israeli activists.

Protesters set out toward the wall carrying Palestinian flags and calling for national unity against the Israeli occupation, land confiscation and stating their refusal to all military procedures to close the village and prevent activists from joining protests. Today’s demonstrators, consisting of Palestinians, Israelis, and internationals, processed from the Bil’in mosque towards the Wall. Halfway along the route, the procession picked up additional demonstrators in the form of several men dressed entirely in black, carrying a coffin with a man inside. The grim scene symbolized the Palestinians’ loss of land during the nakba and their inability to return to these lands. Most importantly, the coffin symbolized the fact that Palestinian refugees are not allowed to bury their deceased loved ones on their native soil.

When the protest reached the wall, an Israeli army unit was stationed behind a concrete block. The gate that leads to the confiscated land was already closed and barbed wire was in place in front of it. The army fired teargas which caused fire in the olive groves. Haitham was shot by a teargas canister and he was transferred to Ramallah for medical treatment. The army arrested three residents, Ashraf Abu Rahmah, 28 years old, Abed and Al-fatah Burnat, 53 years old. Haitham Alkhateeb 34 years old. Two Israeli activists, Dr. Roy Vakner, 37 years old, Ori Baytmen, 27 years old, and an American activist, Stormy, 27 years old were also arrested.

In addition, the Israeli occupation authority released Hamzah Burnat (16 years old) after spending 8.5 months at Reyonim prison for his participation in the weekly protests. Ofer court declared yesterday a 10 month sentence on Ibrahim Burnat and a 2000 shekel fine for his participation in the protests.
