MIRPUR: Mirpur city of Azad Jammu & Kashmir turned into a battlefield on Wednesday as a result of violent police-mob clashes at Mangla Road during complete shutter-down and wheel-jam strike by the people of the city against 16-hour daily loadshedding.
Over 40 persons, including SSP Mirpur Sardar Gulfraz Khan, were injured as a result of stone pelting by angry mob and the retaliatory baton-charge by the heavy armed police contingents, DHQ Hospital sources told The News. At least 12 seriously injured persons were hospitalised in DHQ Hospital till the last reports came in.

The injured also included three journalists and a lawyer. The mob set ablaze an official vehicle of Wapda at Mangla. Over a dozen vehicles and about 40 motorbikes belonging to the demonstrating people were also damaged.
The entire Mirpur city was presenting a deserted look following the shutter-down strike. Thousands of people started march by foot, cars, bikes and other means of communications from central Shaheed Chowk to Power House of Mangla.
