Chareidim in Yerushalayim on Sunday afternoon targeted motorists with rocks and set trash receptacles ablaze in the Meah Shearim/Geula area in protest over archaeological excavations in Tzipori.
Baruch Hashem, there were no reports of injuries. An IDF vehicle passing the area was damaged. Of course the violence resulted in a halt to bus service, not to mention the property destruction and acrid smoke and the mess surrounding the burning of metallic and PVC trash receptacles.
In a related matter, four chareidim arrested in Migdal Ha’emek in connection to protests were released as police attempt to lower tensions and hopefully prevent the planned nationwide protests on Sunday night

Reported: 12:28 PM – Mar/07/10
Hareidi protesters threw rocks at security forces in Jerusalem Sunday morning in protest over a dig going on in a burial cave in the Talmudic-era city of Tzipori in the Lower Galilee. Protesters tried to block roads and several were arrested. One police officer was injured and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Last month Hareidim protested against refurbishing at the tomb of Rabbi Shimon Bar-Yochai at Meron, and protests sharpened after bones were discovered during the course of work there. The refurbishing work was halted.
