Kfir Brigade soldiers manning an IDF checkpoint east of the West Bank city of Nablus discovered three pipe bombs during a search of a Palestinian’s belongings Saturday.
The Palestinian was taken in for questioning.
Also on Saturday, three Palestinians from the northern West Bank village of Burin were injured during clashes with Israeli security forces. A Border Guard officer was also wounded in the fighting.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the clashes erupted when soldiers stopped a group of Palestinians trying to approach a Jewish settlement. The Palestinians hurled stones at the Border Guard officers, who tried to contain the demonstrators with crowd-dispersing apparatus, including rubber bullets, according to the spokeswoman. The army closed off the area.
However, the Palestinians claimed the clashes broke out when settlers raided their village, adding that the Israeli security forces were late arriving at the scene and protected the settlers.
About two weeks ago residents of Burin, located near the settlement of Yitzhar, claimed settlers had destroyed 40 of their olive trees and attacked Palestinian homes.
The Jewish settlers denied the claims.

Nablus – Ma’an – Israeli settlers living in an illegal outpost on the village lands of Iraq Burin attacked a group of locals in the area, sparking clashes, Palestinian security forces said.
Armed Israeli border police arrived shortly after the attack began, the report said, ultimately injuring three civilians who were transferred to hospital by Red Crescent ambulances for treatment.
An Israeli military spokeswoman said the clashes took place « at the illegal outpost at Bracha » southeast of Iraq Burin, built on 44 dunums of private Palestinian land, according to Peace Now, an Israeli NGO. « The area is a closed military zone, » the spokeswoman said, noting the arrival of Israeli soldiers sparked an escalation of clashes in the area.
« Palestinians burned tires and hurled rocks, » she said, slightly injuring one soldier who was treated in the field.
The injured were identified by Palestinian sources as, Bashar Wa’el Qa’dan, 18, Nader Ibrahim Qa’dan, and Samer Ahed Faqha, 42.
All three are being treated at the Rafidiya Hospital in Nablus. Their condition is unknown.
The settlement outpost at Bracha is considered illegal under Israeli law, but the area remains a closed military zone, effectively legitimizing the outpost and preventing Palestinians from reclaiming their confiscated lands.

International Middle East Media Center
10/02/2010

Teen sustains light injuries when Har Bracha security officer fires in air during West Bank brawl
Ali Waked 02.09.10
A Palestinian teen was injured Tuesday evening in the West Bank village of Iraq Burin, apparently from gunshots fired at him by settlers.
The 18-year old was hurt during clashes that broke out between settlers from Har Bracha and Palestinian residents of the village in the fields nearby.
The Coordination and Liaison Authority said it was investigating the connection between the clashes and the Palestinian reports of the teen’s injury.
A police investigation has revealed that a group of 15 American and Canadian volunteers were working in Har Bracha’s fields when a number of Palestinians arrived and began to throw stones at them.
The volunteers, who could not communicate with the Palestinians, called the settlement’s security officer, arrived on the scene and fired into the air. Later the Palestinians reported that a teen was injured, and the security officer was detained for questioning.
Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian Authority official who deals with the settlements issue in the northern West Bank, told Ynet that a group of settlers came down to the village and opened fire without any apparent reason, after which they fled the scene. He added that the teen was lightly wounded on his knee.
Daghlas said it was not a rare occurrence, as the Har Bracha residents had been coming to the village every Saturday recently to destroy property.
He claims the settlers hurt Palestinians, disrupt the olive harvest, and fire their weapons, never halting until soldiers arrive to disperse them. The official added that lately residents of Iraq Burin have begun to fight back, and that this may have been the cause of Tuesday’s clashes.
« This is a quiet village of no more than 1,200 residents who suffer from repetitive assaults by settlers, without the Israeli authorities doing anything to stop it, » Daghlas said.
